Randal Garak Garak is a human male with a ring of grown hair around the back half of his balding head, a greying beard and a large stomach. He is 48 years old and could have been considered handsome in his younger days before too much wine and too little exercise robbed him of his physique. Garka's voice is still loud and deep and he offers his customers a hearty greeting every time. He and his family are often found at Garak's General store and Tavern. Kayla Garak Mindy Garak Mandy Garak Olaf Garak Senator Edward Merik "Lady" Ruth Abernathy Legatus Longinus Merik Hammer Sarafina Goldenrod: Almost nothing is known about this mysterious woman, not even if she exists. Reputedly an elderly elven woman, Sarafina has not been seen in person by anyone living in the city today. Except, perhaps, her guardians. And they are not saying. Rumor has it she lives in the strange home in the Merchant's district. Guards: These four elves guard the estate of Sarafina Goldenrod. All four are young males who very rarely venture away from the estate. They live on the estate grounds and are almost never seen elsewhere, even in the Elven enclave or the druid's grove. They do not speak of their mistress, and only warn away the curious. In the past, intruders to the Goldenrod estate have died at their hands. In person, they speak little and possess a blank stare; it is a widely held suspicion that they are under some sort of spell. Senator Appolonia Carpathes: This female human Senator is 42 years old with long black hair and a statuesque appearance. She appears much younger than her years and often acts that way as well, though it is usually an act designed to lull attentive males into thinking she is less than she seems; a favored pastime for her as she deplores the way women are regarded as less-capable in the male-dominated political arena. Appolonia has a keen mind, a sharp tongue and is always eager for a debate. She is often found at her home in the Merchant District or at the Senate. Sirene Carpathes: Unlike her mother, this human female of 18 years wants nothing to do with politics. She is of average height with thick, curly black hair and a supple figure. Having grown up in a rigidly structured home under her mother's tutelage, Sirene now has the time and means to escape into the city and let loose her pent up frustrations. A frequent companion of the Garak twins, Sirene considers herself above them has assumed the role of leader in their group. Despite being junior in years to the twins, Sirene's boldness and manner have subjugated the Garaks and made them her followers. While the Legion usually tracks her down and returns her to her home at her mother's insistence, Sirene counts the hours until she can slip her watchers and return to her fun. Gilles: The Carpathes' butler and manservant, Gilles is an elderly human male with thinning white hair and a stopped manner. Gilles has served the Carpathes' for two generations and will likely die in their service. While he is quite taken aback at Sirene's behavior, Gilles is far too old and worn to do more than chastise her when she is brought home. Gilles is devoted to Appolonia and will do nearly anything for her or her daughter. He rarely leaves the Carpathes' estate, and if seen elsewhere is likely to be on an errand for his Lady. Legion Soldiers: This Legion Century numbers nearly a hundred men and is commanded by a Centurian. There are ten squads under him and each squad consists of seven men and an Optio. The remainder of the Century is made up of auxillarys and support troops such as cooks, armorers and attached magical specialists. Their headquarters is found in the Merchant District where they can quickly and easily be dispatched to guard and protect the Il Senso's wealthy. For more details on the legion click here. Scipio: This huge, barrel chested human male is around forty years of age but looks younger. His massive body is crisscrossed with old scars and he shows them with pride, wearing only loose breeches in all but the coldest weather. Scipio's favorite weapon, motivational aid and attention keeper is a long bullwhip, which he is an expert at using. Scipio respects those who come to him for training, for he knows his reputation scares away the more timid. Those who work hard and display a willingness or devotion to win earn his praise; a reward that most of his pupils find more satisfying than any medals or prizes. Weakness earns his disfavor and only those who speak boldly and with confidence will gain anything from him other than a swift lash from the whip. He is seen at the Arena and at the Gladiatorial barracks. Sinius Abercrombie: Rising from the low ranks of society by sheer cunning and, some say, collaboration with certain shady elements, Sinius Abercrombie is one of the richest men of Il Senso. The 38 year old merchant owns about a dozen pearl harvesting boats and controls the city’s pearl trade. Several senators have blamed Sinius for creating a fictional shortage of pearls, which are highly useful for both magical purposes and female fashion, in order to constantly drive prices up an accusation he shrugged off as unfounded lies driven by jealousy. Sinius lives in a lush, well guarded estate in the Merchant District. He is often seen in public accompanied by his posh, young wife Minerva, who always wears necklaces of priceless, gargantuan pearls. The couple has no children. Sinius is rumored to be well connected with influential senators. |
