Randal Garak
Garak is a human male with a ring of grown hair around the back half of his balding head, a greying beard and a large stomach. He is 48 years old and could have been considered handsome in his younger days before too much wine and too little exercise robbed him of his physique. Garka's voice is still loud and deep and he offers his customers a hearty greeting every time. He and his family are often found at Garak's General store and Tavern.

Kayla Garak
Kayla Garak is a human female with greying brown hair and a lush figure. She is 44 years old but looks younger by nearly a decade. She is usually quiet and reserved but will still present a warm smile to those that she finds amusing or charming. In the past few years, Kayla has begun several affairs with local businessmen and politicians. While she loves her husband, he is often too busy or tired to pay much attention to her and Kayla has begun to feel her age. Worried that she is no longer attractive, she seeks outside "opinions". She is associated with Garak's General store and Tavern.

Mindy Garak
A tall, blonde human female, Mindy Garak is 22 years old and quite lovely. With a lean, athletic build, she attracts a number of suitors who are also athletes. Unfortunately, Mindy has learned from her mother that marriage is not all it is cracked up to be and so she seeks more "unfettered" fun amongst the young men of the city. So far she is meeting with great success. She is associated with Garak's General store and Tavern.

Mandy Garak
A human female of average height, Mandy is shorter than her sister and has long, brown hair like her mother. Also like her mother and twin sister, Mandy is a frequent guest of the young bachelors of the city. Unlike her sister, however, Mandy has deep feelings of resentment toward her mother, sister and most men. While outwardly she seeks attention and companionship, inwardly she seeks only a loving home and family. She is associated with Garak's General store and Tavern.

Olaf Garak
Olaf is a twelve year old human male. He is slightly built but handsome for his age. Never one to run from a fight, Olaf is respected among the youths of the city for his tenacity and bravery in scuffles with larger and older children. Olaf has many friends and is often seen playing near the ocean or in the streets of the Merchant's district with his companions. While he is supposed to take over the family business one day, Olaf's head is filled with dreams of adventure in the world outside the city. He is associated with Garak's General store and Tavern.

Senator Edward Merik
Edward Merik is a human male of 40 years. He is tall, well built and carries himself with a forceful presence, owing to his military service. While age and a softer lifestyle have dulled his soldier's reflexes, Merik is still a capable fighter and occasionally stops by the Legion barracks to work out with the new recruits. Merik lives alone, though he does "entertain" selected women of the city from time to time. He is the target of most unwed women in the city and an undeclared war of gossip and slander rages amongst them in hopes of gaining his favor. He is most often seen at the Senate and at his home.

"Lady" Ruth Abernathy
A small human woman of barely five feet, Ruth Abernathy has greying blonde hair often piled high on her head and tied with ribbons. She is a seamstress of some renown, and her shop is considered "the" place to buy clothing among the females of the city. In addition to her clothing, Abernathy is something of an information broker. Her keen ears and subtle manner garner her many juicy tidbits of information about the city's well-to-do and who they're doing it with.

Legatus Longinus Merik
The younger brother of Senator Merik, Longinus is thirty four years old and still maintains his soldier's physique. With short brown hair and piercing blue eyes, Merik is considered one of the most handsome men in Il Senso De Acqua. In addition to being the leader of the Il Senso Legion, Longinus is also a devout worshipper of Cadaem and attends every service and ritual. This devotion is a driving reason behind his failure to marry as he would always be a soldier first and a husband second. It is rumored that he and Mandy Garak had an affair but not even Ruth Abernathy can confirm it. He is most often seen in the company of his soldiers and Captains, at the Temple of Cadaem, and his home.

Hammer
This Gnome is a bit over four feet in height and is completely bald. His body, however, resembles that of a dwarf more than a Gnome. He is well-muscled and is quite strong for his race. An accomplished smith, Hammer is quite capable of making nearly any normal item out of metal. Unfortunately, he is also easily distracted and often wastes many hours of his day sitting, smoking and talking with friends or customers. He is most frequently found at Keen Edge.

Sarafina Goldenrod: Almost nothing is known about this mysterious woman, not even if she exists. Reputedly an elderly elven woman, Sarafina has not been seen in person by anyone living in the city today. Except, perhaps, her guardians. And they are not saying. Rumor has it she lives in the strange home in the Merchant's district.

Guards: These four elves guard the estate of Sarafina Goldenrod. All four are young males who very rarely venture away from the estate. They live on the estate grounds and are almost never seen elsewhere, even in the Elven enclave or the druid's grove. They do not speak of their mistress, and only warn away the curious. In the past, intruders to the Goldenrod estate have died at their hands. In person, they speak little and possess a blank stare; it is a widely held suspicion that they are under some sort of spell.

Senator Appolonia Carpathes: This female human Senator is 42 years old with long black hair and a statuesque appearance. She appears much younger than her years and often acts that way as well, though it is usually an act designed to lull attentive males into thinking she is less than she seems; a favored pastime for her as she deplores the way women are regarded as less-capable in the male-dominated political arena. Appolonia has a keen mind, a sharp tongue and is always eager for a debate. She is often found at her home in the Merchant District or at the Senate.

Sirene Carpathes:  Unlike her mother, this human female of 18 years wants nothing to do with politics. She is of average height with thick, curly black hair and a supple figure. Having grown up in a rigidly structured home under her mother's tutelage, Sirene now has the time and means to escape into the city and let loose her pent up frustrations. A frequent companion of the Garak twins, Sirene considers herself above them has assumed the role of leader in their group. Despite being junior in years to the twins, Sirene's boldness and manner have subjugated the Garaks and made them her followers. While the Legion usually tracks her down and returns her to her home at her mother's insistence, Sirene counts the hours until she can slip her watchers and return to her fun.

Gilles: The Carpathes' butler and manservant, Gilles is an elderly human male with thinning white hair and a stopped manner. Gilles has served the Carpathes' for two generations and will likely die in their service. While he is quite taken aback at Sirene's behavior, Gilles is far too old and worn to do more than chastise her when she is brought home. Gilles is devoted to Appolonia and will do nearly anything for her or her daughter. He rarely leaves the Carpathes' estate, and if seen elsewhere is likely to be on an errand for his Lady.

Legion Soldiers: This Legion Century numbers nearly a hundred men and is commanded by a Centurian. There are ten squads under him and each squad consists of seven men and an Optio. The remainder of the Century is made up of auxillarys and support troops such as cooks, armorers and attached magical specialists. Their headquarters is found in the Merchant District where they can quickly and easily be dispatched to guard and protect the Il Senso's wealthy. For more details on the legion click here.

Scipio: This huge, barrel chested human male is around forty years of age but looks younger. His massive body is crisscrossed with old scars and he shows them with pride, wearing only loose breeches in all but the coldest weather. Scipio's favorite weapon, motivational aid and attention keeper is a long bullwhip, which he is an expert at using. Scipio respects those who come to him for training, for he knows his reputation scares away the more timid. Those who work hard and display a willingness or devotion to win earn his praise; a reward that most of his pupils find more satisfying than any medals or prizes. Weakness earns his disfavor and only those who speak boldly and with confidence will gain anything from him other than a swift lash from the whip. He is seen at the Arena and at the Gladiatorial barracks.

Sinius Abercrombie: Rising from the low ranks of society by sheer cunning and, some say, collaboration with certain shady elements, Sinius Abercrombie is one of the richest men of Il Senso. The 38 year old merchant owns about a dozen pearl harvesting boats and controls the city’s pearl trade. Several senators have blamed Sinius for creating a fictional shortage of pearls, which are highly useful for both magical purposes and female fashion, in order to constantly drive prices up – an accusation he shrugged off as unfounded lies driven by jealousy.

Sinius lives in a lush, well guarded estate in the Merchant District. He is often seen in public accompanied by his posh, young wife Minerva, who always wears necklaces of priceless, gargantuan pearls. The couple has no children. Sinius is rumored to be well connected with influential senators.
