Located at the end of a long, thin isthmus along the southern coast, Il Senso De Acqua was a majestic city to behold. Once a mighty power in the southern oceans, with an empire that stretched far into the interior of Myrrdin, the city is now a shadow of its former self. Their borders forced back to their own city walls in mere days by the forces of evil that were unleashed upon the world during the Cataclysm, the Acquan people stood firm in the defense of their city and survived.
Now, the population of the city numbers under 10,000 citizens and while the Emperor and Senate strive to maintain a sense of normalcy for the people, everyone knows the city is doomed. The many magical wells that helped give the city its name are failing. Some are going dry, others are being tainted by sea water that seeps inside, past the protective spells cast long ago.
Overcrowding, starvation, drought... all are taking their toll on the City known as "The Ways of Waters". In recent weeks, the Senate has been quietly searching the city for men and women bold enough to undertake a monumental task: To save the City of the Waters. Hard-eyed soldiers from the city's army, rogues from the waterfront dives, students at the Library of Knowledge, Priests from the Street of the Gods, and mysterious men and women who study the arcane arts in the Tower of Sorcery. Even members of the "lower" races whose unique abilities and knowledge would prove useful in the outside world have been approached.
The Emperor does not wish to alarm his people and so these "recruits" are brought quietly before him when they answer the secret summons. Their mission is simple: explore the lands beyond the Acquan borders, bring back knowledge of what exists beyond the horizon. Obtain allies for the city, safe trade routs to other cities ( if there are any left ), and chart the land and dangers that lie there.
After several weeks of preparation, the first of these companies is ready to depart. More will follow. Despite the Senate's precautions, all in the city know the mission and the plan. Those too old, too young or too timid to go silently wish the company's good fortune, for if they fail... the Ways of the Waters will fall.
Will you take your place as one of these bold adventurers? Will you bravely set foot upon the path and carve your own destiny in the wilds of Myrrdin? Or will you watch from your window as they pass, out through the open gates, up the causeway, into the forest beyond and into the unknown; praying they will save you? Make your decision... Hero. |
